Leica Geosystems machine control technology eliminates stakes and reduces surveying costs by $119,000 for large industrial center |
|
PROJECT: The construction firm James R. Ientile (JRi), Inc. was hired to prepare the job site for the Amboy Center, a big industrial park in Perth Amboy, NJ.
CHALLENGE: Excavate half a million cubic yards of clayel marl. Move the material to different below-grade areas on site for backfilling and bringing the areas to specific grade.
THE LEICA GEOSYSTEMS SOLUTION: Lay out revised topographic maps for the site using a Leica Geosystems 1200 Base Station and a GPS 1200 Rover. Grade the site using bulldozers equipped with the Leica Geosystems GPS MAC. The GPS MAC enabled the bulldozers to fine-grade with + 0.125 inch accuracy.
|
RESULT: By lowering the site 9 inches in the revised topographic maps, the need to haul away or import additional ground was eliminated, saving $1 million in construction costs. The 3D GPS system enabled the contractor to cut, fill, and grade without installing stakes, reducing surveying labor by $119,000.

James Ientile, President of JRi, says his bulldozer equipped with Leica Geosystems GPS MAC grades as precisely as a similarly equipped motor grader. |
