Our Solutions At Work
East Bay teams with Leica Geosystems on California dam rehab project |
|
PROJECT: The San Pablo Dam contains an 834-acre reservoir that supplies drinking water for parts of Alameda and Contra Costa counties in northern California. {SP}
CHALLENGE: The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD)'s $55 million seismic upgrade of the dam. The project includes expansion of the downstream buttress for the dam with a series of shear walls using a cement deep-soil mixing process.
THE LEICA GEOSYSTEMS SOLUTION: Three Leica Geosystems TCA 1201 robotic total stations set up in a network monitor the dam in real-time during the rehabilitation. The system proactively monitors and assesses risk of key points along the dam during construction.
RESULT: Data from the total station network are relayed in real-time via a wireless connection to Leica GeoMoS processing and analysis software, providing comprehensive information on displacement to EBMUD personnel. Using Leica Geosystems' robotic total stations cut survey and monitoring costs approximately 40% (see graph) vs. sight-lining GPS/RTK.
