PROJECT: Destiny USA is a large retail and entertainment complex being built in Syracuse, NY.
CHALLENGE: Grade 6 parking lots totaling 1.3 million square feet, excavate and grade 6 surface water ponds, and excavate a building-utility tunnel.
THE LEICA GEOSYSTEMS SOLUTION:
Use Leica Geosystem's GPS 3D technology to grade the parking lots. Ponds were dug using 2 hydraulic excavators equipped with the Leica DigiSmart 3D GPS.
RESULT: For the parking lots, using the Leica Geosystems' machine control system virtually eliminated the labor and time it would have taken to install 570 stakes within a 50-foot grid pattern. For the pond excavation, the DigiSmart system's onboard monitor enabled excavator operators to monitor the precise position of the bucket to avoid overcutting.
