Breakthrough technology from Leica Geosystems helps East Bay Municipal Utility District cut survey and monitoring cost by 40%

The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) committed $55 million to a seismic upgrade of the San Pablo Dam, including expansion of the downstream buttress with a series of shear walls using a cement deep-soil mixing process. A network of 3 Leica Geosystems TCA 1201 robotic total stations proactively monitors and assesses risk of key points along the dam during construction in real-time.

Data from the total station network are relayed in real-time via a wireless connection to Leica GeoMoS processing and analysis software, providing comprehensive information on displacement to EBMUD personnel. Using Leica Geosystems' robotic total stations cut survey and monitoring costs approximately 40% vs. sight-lining GPS/RTK.
