  Automated Grader Control Helps Achieve Millimeter Accuracy on Toyota Test Track
Talk about superior accuracy. A United States subsidiary of a Japanese engineering/construction firm teamed up with a Canadian paving contractor last summer to place two courses of base aggregate and three layers of asphalt pavement – and brought the wearing course to within 2 mm accuracy over the entire 1,445-meter length (4,740 feet) of a two-lane test track.

At Hell’s Canyon along the Snake River in Idaho and Oregon, a surveying firm used laser scanning and other methods to survey sand and gravel bars in monitoring the effects of damming the river for power.
